| What does The Learner Drivers Club do?
Primarily, Members of the Club will meet on a regular basis throughout the year (February to November) at a variety of venues and golf courses around the Greater Manchester area.
The events are not only golf tuition based events, but are also an opportunity for you to network with like-minded business people.
Our aim is to help you become a proficient golfer, with a swing and a game which will enable you to hold your own on the golf course and tee-off in a corporate golf day or a social game.
As a Member, we will also keep you informed of any special offers and events, promotions, and corporate hospitality tickets.
If you decide you want to invest in a set of clubs, we will recommend some established contacts that will be able to advise and fit you with the most suitable clubs.
If you decide you want to join private members’ Golf Club, we will advise you of clubs in your area and can arrange to visit up to three Golf Clubs with you before you make your final choice.
Do I need any golfing experience?
No – if you can play golf, you can’t join!
What equipment will I need?
We will advise you of the dress code on each occasion, since this will vary. For example, like it or not, denims and trainers aren’t allowed at most golf clubs.
Don’t rush out and buy expensive golf equipment before you know that golf’s the game for you. We will arrange to supply you with the necessary clubs at the events. Otherwise, smart casual wear with waterproof jackets on standby is appropriate.
What makes a good golfer?
A good golfer is a golfer who is happy with their own game and willing to listen to advice from experience. A good temperament is needed to play golf, expect bad days it happens everyone from low handicappers to full professionals. Having a hot head will only cause you more problems.
It can be daunting when starting as there is so much to remember but take time to practice and go to the driving range to help improve teeing off. Looking around the golf course you will see some players and think “Will I ever get to that level”? Remember everybody is different and we are not all made to be professionals, you should go out to do your best and bring in the best possible score and most of all, take home the enjoyment of the day.

Testimonial from our 2009 Pre-Season Get-Together
"I felt the evening was great, facilities were excellent and will definitely be using the facility again for team building etc. The way in which the event itself was hosted again very good, as golfers of all standards were able to enjoy themselves, learning new techniques along the way" Daniel Stockley, Development Executive, Bridge Insurance – March 2009 Pre-Season Get Together at Golftorium
But I’m not a Member of the GM Chamber of Commerce
Non-members of the GM Chamber of Commerce are welcome to join The Learner Drivers Club. We will arrange for one of the Business Advisors from the membership team to contact you or your colleagues to discuss the benefits of joining the GM Chamber of Commerce.
Who organises The Learner Drivers Club?
Jennifer Shaw of Jennifer Shaw Events manages the main GM Chamber Golf Society.
Jennifer was introduced to the game of golf by her father, ex-professional golfer John Shaw. Jennifer is a full member of Manchester Golf Club and was Ladies Captain in 2007.
Through the new branding ‘Your Golf Day – Golf for all Reasons’ Jennifer runs The Learner Drivers Club and other golfing events.
Jennifer is aware that taking up the game of golf can be a daunting experience, which is where the value of The Learner Drivers Club can be fully appreciated.
